Ship satellite failover and application continuity

HF PMS includes VSAT failover and ship discovery within its integration and platform system. The published capability concerns routing over an available link and finding vessels as addressing changes. Satellite connectivity, application reachability and offline working are related, but they are not the same thing.

Failover is not a replacement for an unavailable connection

A failover workflow needs a usable alternative path. The software description is not a satellite bandwidth contract or a guarantee of uninterrupted connectivity. Confirm the vessel's terminals, routers, network policy and service-provider requirements with the people responsible for the deployment.

HF PMS also supports offline and hybrid operating models. When no usable external connection remains, the relevant question becomes which local workflows can continue and what must wait until reconnection. The offline-first ship–shore guide explains that evaluation context.

A practical connectivity test

1. Identify the primary link, intended alternative and a representative ship–shore workflow.
2. Interrupt the primary path in an agreed test environment and inspect reachability over the alternative.
3. Test the absence of all external links and identify which workflows remain available locally.
4. Restore connectivity and review vessel discovery, reconnection and outstanding synchronisation work.

Record the acceptance criteria rather than relying on a generic “always online” claim. Request a connectivity demonstration and confirm the actual network components, external services and operational workflows in scope.
